5 East 57th Street
New York City 22

Dear Mr. Seligman:

Your letter arrived as I was about to write you.

After I had the Lombardi relief sent on here the Trustees embarked on a very ambitious project toward which they are straining all our resources. Every one was so enthusiastic about the relief, however, that I want to keep it here in the hope that we could get the other project over with and then acquire your relief. We have not succeeded yet in carrying out the big project which stands in the way of this purchase, and if you wish your piece sent back to you I cannot blame you in the least. It would go, however, with the very greatest regret on my part as I still have hopes for it.

Let me discuss it with the president of our board again this week and see how she feels about it. And do not hesitate to say what you think is the fair thing to you. I realize that we are under great obligation to you for allowing us to have it here so long and that I can't let my own fondness for the piece lead me to be unfair to you.

Sincerely yours,
