Dear Mr. Richardson:

In your last letter to me of April twenty-ninth, you expressed hopes that my Lombardi bas-relief could be acquired by your museum, perhaps even by a private donation. I answered you then that in view of my leaving momentarily for Europe, there was no particular haste; but, of course, I am anxious now to know whether and conclusion has been or is about to be reached in this matter.

As I know you realize, the bas-relief is of such beauty and rarity that I do hope it will remain in your museum's permanent collection. My trip to Europe has been so very disappointing, and this particularly as regards sculpture, that personally from a purely selfish angle I would not be distressed to hear that you are returning it to me, for I have found nothing of a comparable quality which I could offer at so low a figure.

Sincerely yours,

Germain Seligman
