Dear Mr. Seligman,
I am very much attracted by your little St. Jerome. We have done some work on it here, and my own impression is that it is probably Swabian and dates from the third quarter of the fifteenth century. I presume from the state of the surface in the forward parts that it is in alabaster, not marble. Would you let me know the kind of price that you are asking for it? I cannot remember if I showed you the Pieta by the Master of Rimini, which we got last year; you may have seen it in the Vienna exhibition.

Yours sincerely,
John Pope Hennessy

Transcription Notes:
Top corners need to be transcribed, & I'm not sure if I should have used an em dash for "Keeper — Department of Architecture and Sculpture." Top corners have now been subscribed (not sure why the top corners are not being transcribed at the same time as the body of the text??).
