THE WALLACE COLLECTION
MANCHESTER SQUARE
LONDON, W.1.

24th January, 1967.

Dear Mr. Seligman,
Thank you for much for your letter of 19th January. I am most interested to hear what you think about Mr. Weinstein's tapestry, and that it is possible that this may be the one from Bagatelle. Since writing to you I have noticed that the subject was one of the pieces of tapestry which Lord Hertford lent to the Musée Rétrospectif exhibition in 1865:-

5739. La toilette de Flore. On remarque dans les groupe, un jardinier et un amour portant un vase de fleurs Epoque de Louis X11

The gardener is there all right, but I cannot quite identify the cupid with the vase of flowers, unless this refers to the three above the head of Flora. No indication of factory is given in the Catalogue, but the implication is that it is French and not Flemish. I agree with you about the quality, which is not very high.

With kindest regards,
Yours sincerely,
R A Cecil
Assistant to the Director.
