Dear Mr. Cecil:

It was pleasant indeed to hear from you and to receive your letter of January 16th reminding me of the Wallace Bagatelle Collection. Your inquiry is, I should say, quite flattering for you to assume that my memory can actually achieve a tour de force...........

However, as odd as it may seem, I would not be surprised if the Toilette de Flore tapestry had been part of the set of three you mention. Nevertheless, I sense a conflict between the attribution to the Gobelins in the inventory and my impression (from the reproduction you sent - it is a very poor one, of course) that it is a work from Brussels. Would have the Paris experts committed such an error? But I do believe I recognize the subject.

These comments, I realize, are full of question marks and, to my chagrin, will not be the adequate answer to your query.

The three tapestries were of relatively little importance compared to the other superb ones - I bring this about as an excuse to explain the vagueness of my reply.

Incidentally, may I add that I do not know Mr. Walter H. Weinstein.

With all good wishes,
Sincerely yours,

Germain Seligman
