The Wallace Collection
Manchester Square
London, W.1.
13th October 1961

Dear Mr. Seligman,
Thank you very much indeed for your letter of 3rd October, and for the extracts concerning the other set of furniture with tapestry after Francesco Casanova which was formerly in this Collection. I am delighted to have these, and did not know personally about the sale in Paris.

The sofa and one of the chairs are illustrated in the first of A. F. Morris's articles on the Murray-Scott collection in the rue Lafitte, which appeared in The Connoisseur in August 1910. In the case of this set, the chairs and sofa are of the period, whereas on our set here, Nos. F 331-9, the menuiserie was made by the London firm of C. Mellier & Co., presumably for Sir Richard Wallace. The Dupain set must have remained behind in Paris when our part of the collection was moved to London in 1872.

It is very good news that your book is to be published shortly, and, as you can imagine, we shall be overjoyed to have a copy of the inventory. It is most kind of you to offer it to us.

With kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
Robert A Cecil
