The Wallace Collection
Manchester Square
London, W.1.

31st July 1961

Dear Mr. Seligman,
Mr. Wrightsman had just had our letter of 6th July sent on to me from New York. I think it must have been sent back there from Paris, for I happen to know that he is in Europe at the moment.
The only pieces in the Wrightsman Collection which I can quite definitely say came from the Hertford/Wallace/Murray-Scott inheritance are:-

1. A commode in the style of Cressant,; this, which seems to be a pair to the one in the Jones collection at the V. &A.(Cat.No.16),was previously in the Rasmusson collection at Copenhagen and was sold there, 28-29th June 1946, lot 120.
2. A bureau-plat, also somewhat in the manner of Cressant, and also coming from the Rasmusson collection. This was lot 10 in the Rasmusson sold at Christie's on 24th November 1958.
3. A gilt-wood screen by Jacob coming from St. Cloud. This had previously been lot 13 in the Dutasta sale of 3-4th June 1926. You will find it discussed in a recent article by M. Verlet in L'Art [[strikethrough]] Francais [/strikethrough]] de France.

I was so sorry not to see you whilst you were in London, but I had the pleasure of a visit from your wife. It is good news to hear that your book really is in the very last stages of completion and is expected to be out very shortly. Even more exciting to me of course was the news that as soon as the book is out you will be so very kind as to present the manuscript inventory to the library here. This, as you will imagine, will be a very welcome addition to the library and one of the great treasures that we shall have in the archives.
With kind regards to your wife and yourself,
Yours sincerely,
Francis Watson
