Dear Mr. Watson:

The mention you made in the course of your lecture at the Frick Collection of a certain Ribou? who copies Watteau, has been going through my mind, not recalling having ever heard his name before.

However, in connection with a study Mrs. Seligman and I made and which appeared in the "Art Quarterly" (published by the Detroit Institute of Arts, Spring 1958) entitled "The Myth of the Fragonard Portraits at Chantilly, or The Rediscovery of Jean-Marie Ribou", I am wondering whether, by any chance, it would be the same artist you referred to and to whom we now are able to credit a series of small portraits.

I am sorry to say that I do not have an extra available copy of this article, as otherwise, it would give me pleasure to forward it on to you.

Should it be the same Ribou, by luck, do be good enough to let me know.

Do convey my respects to Mrs. Watson, and with best personal regards,

Sincerely yours,

Germain Seligman
