THE WALLACE COLLECTION
MANCHESTER SQUARE
LONDON, W.1

5th February, 1952

Dear Mrs. Seligman,

In reply to your letter of 28th January, I am writing to say that the Trustees would be pleased to permit your husband to reproduce in his forthcoming book the picture The Schoolmistress or Dîtes dono, s'il vous plaît, by Fragonard, No. 404 of this Collection. I must, however, ask him to observe the following conditions:

1. A reproduction fee of one guinea is normally payable, but in the circumstances we would be prepared to accept in lieu a complimentary copy of the book when it appears.

2. Permission is granted for the specific purpose only, and must be sought again before the reproduction can appear in any other connection.

3. Due acknowledgement must appear beneath the reproduction and should read: Reproduced by permission of the Trustees of the Wallace Collection.

I am enclosing our official application form for permission to reproduce works of art in this Collection, which I would be grateful if you would complete and return here together with a remittance to cover the enclosed invoice in respect of the cost of the glossy print and postage. The Trustees' official permission will then be sent to you, and in the meantime I am having a photographic print from official negatives sent to you direct.

Yours sincerely,
R. A. Cecil
