THE WALLACE COLLECTION
MANCHESTER SQUARE
LONDON, W.1

30th October, 1950.

Dear Mr. Seligman,

I am wondering whether you can help me to trace four panels of 18th Century Gobelins Tapestry from the Jason series formerly belonging to the late Lord Moyne, who inherited them from his father, the first Earl of Iveagh. I gather from Lord Moyne's executors that these panels were for some years in your hands and that they were finally sold at the Parke-Bernet Galleries on or about the 2nd May, 1946.

I have reason to believe that they may be identical with a set of four exactly similar panels sold by sir Richard Wallace at Christies' on 20th April 1876, although the measurements seem to be a little at variance. I would be mot grateful if you could give me any idea of where the Iveagh-Moyne set is now, as I am trying to collect together some material for an article on the Hertford-Wallace tapestries on the same lines as my precious one in the Burlington Magazine. An interesting point is that Fenaille seems to have been unaware of the Wallace sale of 1876 when compiling his great work on the Gobelins, although one would have thought he would have remembered it.

I shall be most grateful for any assistance you can give me.

With kind regards,

I am,

Yours very sincerely,
Robert A. Cecil
