April 17, 1950

Dear Sir:
My brother, Francois Gerard Seligmann, has just forwarded to me a copy of your letter addressed to him of April 5th, in which you express the desire to reproduce my HOUDON "Bust of Cagliostro" and this is n illustration to an article in the Burlington Magazine.

You add that you might also reproduce my painting bu TOCQUET "Portrait of the Duchess de Chartres".

I hasten to let you know that I shall be pleased indeed to let you reproduce these two great works of art. May I ask you, however, should you do so, to be good enough to mention them under my personal name:

Germain Seligman, New York.

My brother, however, omitted to forward a copy of your first letter to him, in which you evidently wrote inquiring as to the whereabout of these two items.

Should you be at leisure I would appreciate hearing more about your contemplated article, particularly as both the HOUDON and the TOCQUET, having originated from the Paris part of the Wallace collection then in the Chateau Bagatelle, I am wondering whether your article will be in connection with that collection.

This question is not mere curiosity on my part, but as you know certainly, there was never anything, not even a summary, published of the exceptional works of art that collection included, a topic which always tempted me but which for various reasons I never took up.

Be this as it may, as a subscriber to the Burlington Magazine I am much looking forward to reading your article.

Yours very sincerely,
(Germain Seligman)
