Dear Germain Seligman:

You may have learned of the public announcement at Wilmington that I was appointed Deputy Director to Dr. E.P. Richardson in his directorship at the Winterhur Museum, to commence in April. It was not an easy decision to weigh present certainties against unknown factors, despite the honor and the fact that I was not seeking a change.

Our real regret is that the pleasure of having the benefit of your wide professional experience in the art market regarding the development of our collections in Louisville, must thereby diminish. Thanks very much for your very kind interest! One local collector has already indicated that I must continue to advise, so perhaps there may be some possibilities. Of course I shall acquaint my successor with our correspondence in good hope.

Our Accession Committee recently met after unexpected delays and considered the photographs which you most kindly made available when I called in September. They didnot decide to invite any pictures for consideration at present alas, but may be able to do so by the Spring meeting, in which event we shall promptly let you know. Meanwhile, we cannot in all conscience retain your photographs any longer. We are sending back those of "Adoration of the Magi by Bourdon," "Une Renommee by La Hyre," "Pestiferes de Jaffa by Baron Gros," and "Still Life by Pereda," with renewed gratitude.

With best wishes for Christmas and the New Year, I remain,

Sincerely yours,
Franklin Page
