Dear Germain:

I wonder if you have ever checked the attribution of the watercolor by Gericault with Dubaut in Paris. Or, for that matter, with Mongan at the Fogg. I think it might be good to do so.

The museum friends who were at my house about ten days ago definitely distrusted Berger's opinion. Furthermore, they definitely recommended that I arrange to return the watercolor to you and discuss the matter very frankly, as I have done.

Just as a personal suggestion, I think you should check in detail on the attribution before offering it to anyone else, if you want to do so at all.

This matter has shaken my faith tremendously, as it probably will your own. Somehow or other it has convinced me that I have been correct in concentrating on late 19th and early 20th century drawings because of my intimate knowledge of the field.

Sincerely,
Dick
