Dear Germain:
I am so sorry that we missed seeing you in New York.

We arrived early Saturday morning and spent the day racing around in connection with furnishings for our new house.

Quite late in the afternoon we started for no. 5. However, when we passed your man in the street I began to suspect that we were too late. And the elevator man told us that you had closed.

We then counted on seeing you Monday morning. But much to my annoyance we could not get the plane reservations we wanted and had to leave at six in the morning for an appointment late that afternoon in Grand Rapids.

At any rate, we did not have much to discuss with you since the matter of the Rodin is up to Mr. Plimpton. I have recommended it heartily.

I showed Phyllis the photographs of the Maillol and small Delacroix and returned same to you because if we purchase anything I want to secure the Daumier or, even more, the large Delacroix. Therefore, it is better not to spread ourselves.

I am really interested in the large Delacroix and hope that you will let me know in the event that your client does not purchase it.

I am holding the photograph of the Tiepolo and wonder if you would send me the price. I would also appreciate a photograph of the Gericault. And I would like to know if you have any new drawings as a result of your recent trip.

I expect to return to New York before too long. If you still have the Maillol, I want Phyllis to see it in the flesh. However, I do not expect you to reserve it for me since it must be a very saleable item.

Sincerely,
Dick
