Griffin, Ga. Jan 29, 1866. Capt. W. W. Deane Asst Adjt Gen'l. Bureau R.F. and A.L. Dear Sir - Your communication of the 26th inst. came to hand yesterday, accompanied by my appointment as agent of the Bureau for Spalding County, also inclosures of instructions. I am somewhat at a loss to understand how I came to be honored by two appointments of the same kind. I received on the 26th inst. the same in substance as your communication, from Major Gray, his "special orders" being numbered 19 whilst yours is 22. I suppose though that it is a mistake. I accept the appointment, and will use my best endeavors to carry out the designs of the officers at the head of the Bureau. I am required to forward [[strikethrough]] acc [[/strikethrough]] duplicates of all contracts approved by me - am I, as one of the contracting parties to hold the original? (over)
