agreed to do & that sum one had stold a Hog from his brother who lives about three miles from the Plantation where the Freedman was & that the 2 Mr Howards had came alone & purchased their houses & field to find the mut & they had some words about it and he Howard had kerst them & tooled them to leave that he wouldent have them on his place & they were then on a hunt of a sow I then asked their notion Mr Howard had failed to comply with his part of the contract. They said he was to give them a sertin portion of the crop & that they had then bin on the place three weeks and had made new start towards rasen a crop being ingaged in finding & packing Mr Howards last years crop of cotton
They then shode me this contract that I have enclosed to you they say they have never signed a contract & Mr Howard has since toold me the same [[cross-out]] as that [[/cross-out]] I then made a contract with them to give to give them 150$ as peace & 40 acer of land to put in cotton and alow them the use of my stock & tools to tend it [[?]]
