The people generally actively engaged preparing the ground for a crop. |

The people have been coming and going for the last month. |

During the last month clothing to the amount of about three hundred and twenty five dollars has been issued. It was procured from the Penn. Freedmens Relief Association. Also tools to the amount of two hundred dollars have been furnished by the same Association. Both of which have met a demand not easily supplied in any other way The tools are a treasure truly, for with them the people repair their houses build new, and construct agricultural implements.

No school is kept at present on St. Simons as Mrs Eatons' health gave way. But I have secured a pledge for a teacher from the Penn Freedmens Relief Association, that they will furnish one or more teachers, and a letter from a young lady in Philad. tells me that she is soon to start for this island. The people are very healthy, considering their exposure, and a constant and marked improvement in manners and industry gives pleasing proof that our labors are not in vain.

A Sabbath school is held every Sabbath at which about 100 attend. Also a sermon is preached each Sabbath. Not being removed by the Government on the first of Jan. as was constantly affirmed that they would be, has given the people courage, and since the first of Jan a marked change, for the better has been noticeable.

Most Respectfully Submitted
