Dawsonville, Dawson Co. Ga. Feb 20, 1866

Dear Sir

I saw some months ago an article in a newspaper which makes it the duty of all loyal citizens to report to the freedmans Bureau all acts of maltreatment that the freed men may receive from their former masters &c. And as I do not know where to direct to the bureau I thought it would not be improper to inform you how matters are going on in this county. Several freed men have come to me and told me that they are in want of bread and clothing and their former masters sent them away in a state of destitution and refuse to pay them any thing for their labour. They say they have learned that the U.S. Authorities will compel their former masters to pay them for their labour. They say if they had what is due to them they could live this year. And after that the production of their own
