Goldman is a German hardly able to make himself understood in the English language; he is a peacable, unoffensive man; in this case he is decidedly more sinned against than sinning; the colored man taking advantage of Goldman's helpless condition exhibited the shrewddness of turning the tables _ fearing his arrest for theft he managed the arrest of his victim.

I am entirely disinterested in the matter. I consider it simply an act of humanity to plead in his behalf. Goldman is a poor, hardworking man whose physical condition is sufficient proof that he could not hurt anybody, even were he so inclined.

I will add that several highly respectable ladies witnessed the affair from their windows and if you should deem it necessary, will make affidavits that Goldman is the injured party.
