Dear Sir

The reports from your different agents together with your instructions with regard to my son Lucius is before me, and I write you to disabuse yr mind from an error made by the the report of agent of Clk. Co. which I propose doing by taking up the facts stated in that report as they occur and disposing of them as briefly and summarily as possible. It is proper however and necessary perhaps for yr information, not being familiar with the married relations of negroes while in bondage for me to say that our marriages were rarely celebrated, the consent of the respective owners to the unions being all that was necessary to effect it, and with this each part was satisfied. Well then I was the property of Mr. Liverney, my wife Lucius' mother the property Thompson father of said Thomas but bear this in mind the consent of the two was given and we lived together intermittedly until 8 years since when I was forced to leave for reasons you can if you must "know". She my wife had children before we were married my oldest by her died last year was 20 yrs old the youngest 9 yrs old
