to my obtaining this - It would be equally in my way to any other appointment - I write to you as the friend of the Freedmen - the sacrifices that I have made in befriending them - causes me to feel a sympathy for them - and I am willing to do all I can. Regarding the interest of both races as inseparable, I consider fair & equal justice to each is Justice to both races - But I trespass - Believe me my dear Sir.
