My Dear Sir,
I wrote to you a few days ago, but fearing that my letter may not have been received, I write to satisfy some who seem anxious & uneasy in relation to the Agency of this County, and I simply wish to reiterate what I wrote before.

The free men are urgent in their requests that you will not appoint to the agency of this county either Mr Green Brantly or Mr James G Brown. I have promised to represent their wishes to you, and the bearer of this who is a delegate elect to the convention or association which meets on Wednesday next can inform you more fully. I have been requested to accept the Agency if tendered, and have consented to do so. Although I must ask it as a far my Dear Sir, that unless the agency will pay well, you will not appoint me. My sympathy for the negro in this county has cost me already my means of support. If I accept the Agency while I shall endeavor in the fear of God to do equal & exact justice to all, I know I shall incur the additional hostility & opposition.
