wi ever again see him enslaved although I fear that like the aborigine is of the country he is destined in a a few negroes to pass away-

If it were not for the Test Oath, which I cannot take- I would gladly accept the appointment referred to by [?] Lawton in his letter to me- And would dispence with the best advice that a thirty years experience in medicine could supply- the bounty of Government
Excuse this long letter- I have endeavored to be as little troublesome to the Bureau as possible- And shall not again voluntarily trespass upon your time- Any thing I can do to benefit the freedmen or to aid the Government in its benevolent designs I shall always to cheerfully-
