Cont. from front:
When Preston first heard this song, an elder
told him it was a "healing song" - literally a
song that physically heals. Also sung at
funerals to heal the psyches of the living.
In the second chosen session, the women
stepped closer together (and to the men).
Then they moved back. Oscillated between
positions.
The third verse described coyote [?] and wrapping
an arrow around his body. Women converged and
spread out similarly to verse 2.
Fourth, quails dust bathing. Both beat and melody changed.
Fifth concerns the grey/ white of their feathers.
The womens' swaying is simple but matches the beat.
Sixth: "He saw it coming from the middle of the water"
water = river.
7th: "Swimming in the water, going by." Refers to the
centerpole in a dwelling (first to be built).
