Today's cooking demo uses walnuts from Armenia.
Can be made as large as a table.
Caution to not tear layers

1)line tray w/ butter
2)roll dough very thin and place on tray and first layer is the most important and more melted butter is added
3)place sugar cubes on top of layer and next walnuts and keep repeating on next layers

Price of ingredients and labor to make are reasons baklava is made at certain occasions.

Each walnut is shelled by hand once water comes to a boil.

Sugar cubes and walnuts halves hold up the bakhlava

** NB: Power lost on Foodways 1 for about 1 hr **

Last 2 layers are made larger to be sure they stretch without holes. They have butter only.

Brush top layer w/ egg white and cuts lightly into rows and along edges.

No extra flavors added because unnecessary.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, at 400° F.

Pour honey once bakhlava is removed from oven.
