Armenia currently is 1/13 of former Armenian territory. Surrounded by Christian & non-Christian countries, lst country to accept Christianity

This year - 2800th anniversary of yer. Yerevan - Pink City (stone is made of pink ... toufah (sp?) 

Burning w/roses, water splashing refreshing spirit = reason for Vartavar. Happens in Yerevan & all are Armenia this day
In [[strikethrough]] regson for [[/strikethrough]] her village Tarbush celebrated 1st Sunday after July 22. In some celebrate 1st week of August.
Several micro-climates in Armenia, so some variation in when exactly Vartavar is celebrated. Her region goes to local water sources (natural) "is celebrated [[strikethrough]] w/a whole [[/strikethrough]] almost as important as Christmas in her area; also families go hiking together. They take cattle to mountains. When she was younger she'd go w/her grandparents, pick special Vartavar flowers and make crosses out of them, then throw into neighbors' homes in secret, and neighbors would have bonfire competitions then next day, gifts/candy/would be exchanged. If someone didn't have anything to give, $ they'd get watered! The houses where they left crosses, they'd say "that was my cross, pay up!" - Neighbor expected to give sweets to kids.
