Tarragona. St. Magee other patron saint; healing water from town where he was killed. In Tarragonia

Santa

Tecla = Patron Saint = they have a relic of her finger relic goes at head of procession and everyone follows

In Tarragonia, Festival concentrates on only old part of the city, others miss out. But you have people who are really into it, or just passerby.
In Cat. 40-45% ppl are practicing catholics, yet civic calendar is bound by religious holidays and ppl still follow Santa Tecla's finger (for example). In Barre, Santa Rita day women bring roses. but you wont see half those women in church. We dont go every Sunday but we are there for our patron saints. One thing is to go to Mass, another to make the bells toll. Big diff between real believers who go; its a Matter of age and generation. In Muslim countries we think they go more regularly to mosque but this may not be true.

Claudia
"Santa Anastasi = Nostra Patron" everyone in city knows this phrase.(call & response)No one usually goes to Mass but everyone is loyal to the patron saint.

Everyone is 100% Catholic background, even if they don't know it, because Muslims/Jews forced to convert or expelled. protestant was never legal. But this doesn't mean they are devout.
Question of whether just traditional culture is the only culture or football, TV, internet,,, all of these are culture too.
Tradition is always changing/evolving. No matter how old the tradition, does it serve it's purpose - to bring people together, and make them happy. Human towers - almost disappeared a century ago - are now having their hey day again. It gives people who would otherwise not meet, of other background socio-economic etc. to build community.
Scouting built community in her case.

When Nastic? (city soccer team) goes down, interest in human towers grows and vice versa. Both are symbols of the city. 1 thing is to support another is to commit to participating on a tower lean. Does towers make Catalan feel connected to the culture as a symbol? Yes more than soccer. This is the criteria UNESCO uses.
