STORIES OF MIGRATION cont'd.
For the father, it's (having the stable) not just a job it's the significance of this country, it's his means of relaxing and reminds him of how he grew up.
- The ranch is something they do 'cause they ♡ doing it, not to make a living. It brings them together as a family. They all have regular jobs. But they go to events all over VA and as far as NY.
- There are Peruvian breeders all over VA and other states - they belong to a club for all breeders all over the east coast who compete for the best horse. Judged by how it walks, how smooth is its gait, in diff. riding positions. Also its temperment and how do you control its impulsiveness to go - do you control or does the horse?
- What makes Peruvian horse special = its gait.
- The chalan (horse ride) must be happy & proud.
- How to deal w/ the conflict of being at 1st generation kid raised in the US but dressed/dance traditionally.
[] Brother [] -
Close-knit family, 14 cousins, served as translator for dad so able to be part of all aspects of his life. Peru = a foreign land but I still feel at home. The story of being a Moran is something I want to keep alive and not be forgotten. How lucky I am to be part of this culture.
[] sister [] - I have such a responsibility (and happiness & pride) to pay it forward to those who can't go to peru, to uphold the history of parents, grandparents, etc. to be loyal to [promote our homeland.
- Discussion of the mariqera (Nat'l. dance of peru) dance w/ the horse; mostly for courtship, the Marin from peru would come & try to flirt w/ woman including moves w/ the horse, so lots of what the girl does imitates the way the horse moves.
[] Dad [] Demo of how horse steps - always the back legs on ground/on beat; front legs = outward/"laterales" a motion toward denee.
[] Sister [] Marinera Demo of pasos laterales. Then dad and sister demonst together
Marinera and Tondero (from North) dances and several others are used w/ handkerchief.
[] Sister [] Demo: How to loop and wave the handkerchief, always in right hand.
