| October 12th 1869 #83 | District 1st Military E.R.S. Canby Bvt Maj Genl Comd'g Oct 15th Returned to Genl Canby with copy enclosed as requested | Richmond Va Oct 9th 1869. Forwards communication of Thos M Tate endt by Capt C Wheaton USA. Mil Com 29 & 30 Dist. relative to a free boy of color named Wm Gibson who was apprenticed to Mr Tate & he (Mr T) now requests that a copy of the indenture may be furnished for file in office of Co Court & one copy for him. States it is believed that all the records have been transferred to Washington, and if a copy of the indenture can be found Respectfully requests that a copy of it be sent to him with this letter. |

Requests that these papers be returned to this office after they have served the purpose for which they are desired. Nov. 9th Recd back. (Testimony & report of Sinclair) & returned to Capt Sladen | Austin Texas Sept 14th 1869. Requests that the papers in relation to the attack upon Wm H. Sinclair late Inspector Bur &c at Tyler  States this testimony will be of great service in conducting the case. |

Thinks it best for the present to keep the schools under control of the Bu. separate from State schools and to manage them thro' good colored trustees. Says that Mr. Rice is hampered by Dr. Vogell, that his plans are good & if let alone success will follow his efforts. &c.  |
