Bryant Supt of Pub Inst. Copy of deed enclosed. States that he has personally examined the property and finds that the house in its present condition would be uninhabitable in the winter months without the assistance above mentioned |

Application made by Jno. C Nelson Supt of Pub Inst. States that a school is much needed in this locality and the frame of the house is already erected. |

| Oct 14th #221 | Thomas G B Oct 16 Referred to Wm P Drew Chief of Claim Div. | Lexington Ky Oct 12th 1869 States that he was elected by 4000 colored people as corresponding Agent and finds by travelling over the State that the colored soldiers have been swindled out of their bounties & claims by Claim Agents for many discharges are in the hands of the Agents & when asked for they return the answer that authority must be shown and then they will give up the papers. Also states that he was consulted with Lawyers, the County Judge and Governor. They say I should get a position as Commissioner and then they will protest the same. Solicits such a position as would enable the people to receive their rights from Claim Agents. States also the desire of the soldiers to join the G.A.R. but cant on account of having no discharge papers. |
