General.
I have the honor to state that I have just received the following Telegram "Dated Washington June 7th 1866. Received at Augusta June 7th To Bvt. Maj. Gen. D. Tillson - Absolute want is reported near Cartersville, Ga.- Please communicate with Gen. G. H. Thomas and have a Month's supply for the destitute at Atlanta, say for four thousand people, and send a trusted officer there- Issue half rations or less.

I am inclined to believe that the statements made to Gen. Howard as to the suffering in Northern Georgia are exaggerated, and that it may not be really necessary to place so large an amount of rations at Atlanta as Gen. Howard recommends_ I have the honor to request that three thousand rations
