Sir:
Your Endorsement on the communication from Col E. P. Carling of April 26th is recd. You are totally mistaken in saying that it was understood that you should pay the same rates of freight as pr Florida, Stn. On the contrary, you distinctly agreed to pay the sum of $50-, and your friends Allen Newell & Co. also agreed to pay $50-. And when I left your landing you promised in the presence of all the passengers, to collect the amt. due from Allen, Newell & Co., and pay it, with the amt. due from yourself, to Col Carling. The blankets of which you speak were, it is true, bought on board from your landing by my directions, as I supposed that they belonged to the Govt.
