General
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 9th inst. I beg to invite your attention to an official report dated June 11, Fwd'd to Bvt Majr Genl C R Wood Commanding Department of the South, Stating the action of the undersigned with reference to the Loyal Georgian, a copy of which was mailed to you on the 4th inst.

I beg further to add that after placing a guard over the office of the Loyal Georgian, I sent for W. J. White a leading Colored Man, and Chairman of the Financial Committee of the Loyal Georgian, showed him Bryant's letter threatening to publish me as a liar and asked him if he intended to allow the organ of the Colored people in this State to be made use of as an instrument of private revenge, he said it was not, giving his pledge that the letter Should not be published in the paper. I sent Lt Forbes with Mr White to the office of the Loyal Georgian to withdraw the guard. On arriving
