The Asst Com'r directs me to say that a report has been received at this office which tends to show that Wm Harris (freedman) was convicted of Assault & Battery at the late term of the county court of Warren County and sentenced to pay a fine of $50 or 90 days confinement upon insufficient testimony. That the evidence produced went to show that Wm Harris was not the aggressor, nor did he defend himself against the blows inflicted upon him by Mr. Baxby, but on the contrary attempted to avoid them by running away from Mr. Baxby. You are respectfully requested to furnish this office with a copy of the records of the county court in this case setting forth the evidence produced and findings & sentence of the court thereupon.
