Sir

Your communication of the 1st inst enclosing Bill from Mrs. Calley for the support of the freed woman Judy with the request that the same be paid has been received. The Ass't Com'r directs that you inform Mrs. Calley that her bill cannot be paid as no appropriation has been made for such purposes. If she is absolutely unable to provide for Judy without positive injury to herself and family she will not be required to longer support them - Is it from sickness or age that the woman Judy is prevented from earning a livelihood. If the latter, she can be more properly provided at the "Contraband Camp" near Atlanta. You are also desired to ascertain & report the age of her eldest child.

Respectfully
Your Obt. Servant
