Vincent Powell (freedman) makes complaint that Doctor Ursery of Glasscock [[Glascock]] County, for whom he had contracted to work the year for and in consideration of the sum of $12 per month, dismissed him from his employ the latter part of July last without payment of any amount or nature whatsoever, also that he (Ursery) has possession of all his (Powell) clothes & bedding and refuses to deliver the same up to him. The Asst Com'r directs that you summons both parties (plaintiff and defendant) before you and effect a settlement of the case according to the requirements of Circular No 8 C.S. from this office, copy of which is herewith enclosed. You are also directed to return this communication to this office with a report of the nature & result of the settlement referred to above ordered
