The papers in the case of Abram Hardisty (freedman) indicted by the grand Jury of Wilkes County for vagrancy & found guilt and fined $52.00 said fine being paid by N. Wylie by virtue of which he was bound to said Wylie for one year under a Court Contract, has been laid before the Asst Commissioner who directs me to say that, he has no objection to Hardisty being bound by contact for a reasonable length of time at a fair and just rate of compensation to some party willing to pay the fine ($52.00) imposed upon him by the County Court of Wilkes County. But that he will not approve of a contract of such manifest injustice to Hardisty as the Court Contract above referred to, and that Abram Hardisty is hereby released from any further obligations under such contract. You will notify Mr Wylie that he no longer has any claims upon the services of Abram Hardisty, the Court Contract between said parties, of date August 20th 1866 being annulled by Orders form the Asst Commissioner.
