the persons killing or inflicting injuries; also the instances in which such persons have been arrested and punished by the Civil Authorities, and the nature of the punishment, the names of those at present at large, and their probable whereabouts or residence.

It is estimated that about two third of the crimes of this nature, committed upon the Freedpeople, are brought to the notice of the Agent of the Bureau.

No. 1. January 11th in Mitchell Co, John Chivalier was murdered without provocation, by Henry McMillen, (col). McMillen was arrested by Civil Authorities and admitted to bail in the sum of five hundred dollars, twelve hours before Chivalier's death. His bondsmen were insolvent, and were in company with him, when he committed the murder. His present whereabouts unknown.

2. Jan. 31st, in Early Co, David Hutchins was shot and killed, in a quarrell about work, by Geo Chancey white; no arrest, whereabouts unknown.

3. February 3d, in Early County, Moses Alexander was shot and killed, without provocation, by Benjamin Chancey, white, brother of the above. No arrest. Chancey supposed to be in Dale County, Alabama.
