No. 179. In Columbia Co. Richmond Thomas was stabbed in head & body by Turner Tompkins Mat. —— Jno Hunter (whites). There appears to be no cause for this assault, except a slight quarrel between two freedwomen Thomas was set upon and shot int he arm & stabbed with a knife in 3 or 4 places. No arrests. 

No. 180. In Lincoln Co. Abraham Brigsby killed with a pistol shot by Jim Bussy & Jim Bivens & others

No. 181. In Lincoln Co. William Carter killed with pistol shots by Henry Freeman & others

No. 182. In Lincoln Co. Humphry Curtis wounded badly by Allison Leavitt & other.

The above three cases occurred at or near Tuckers Mills about 8 miles from Lincolnton on Friday night (midnight) Oct. 30th 1868. The offenders came to the house of Humphry Curtis, which they forcibly entered, saying they were looking for his pistol. They took him & the two other freedmen named, down to the mill pond near by, where, after a short parlay they ducked them & otherwise maltreated them. They then made the freedmen get down under the water & then fired upon them killing two & wounding the third. The wounded man was brought to the freedman's Hospital at Augusta Saturday night Oct 31st 1868, from whom this statement is obtained. The wounded man further states that he is not aware of any cause for this outrage except political. No arrests.

No. 183. In Richmond County Lyman Scott was shot and killed by Michael Sullivan (wh.) arrested & bound over to court. not yet tried.
