Dear Matsuki:--
Your good letter, written from the S. S. "Empress of Japan", reached me day before yesterday, and I am very glad to hear from you. Welcome home.

Mr. Kobayashi is now here, and I am looking through his kakemono, prints and books. His books seem to be of a very much better character than his prints or kakemono. I think I shall buy one or two kakemono and quite a number of the books. The kakemono by Kiyonaga is very fine, but the price is outrageously high, so I am not likely to get it. His screens have all gone to New York, and I expect to see them there in about ten days. I imagine, however, that his prices are very much greater than I am willing to pay. Much obliged to you for the information you sent to me concerning the screens, which shall be kept strictly confidential.

I shall leave Detroit on Monday next, and go to my farm at Sheffield. I shall be there three or four days; then I am going to New York for a day; after which Mr. Moore and I are going to Washington for one day to see Mr. Waggermann's collection; then
