I find my interest in Art centering more strongly, year by year, in the early productions of the Japanese and Chinese painters and potters. Of course, Mr. Whistler's work interests me very much, and the more I study it the greater its facination. The three beautiful impressions you sent of his work, I already have, and, as a matter of personal interest to yourself, I want to tell you of an impression of "Little Arthur" in my group formerly owned by Sir Seymour Haden, which is still earlier than the splendid impressions which came with your lot. I have four impressions from this plate, and the one I particularly wish to describe is a trial proof taken before Mr. Whistler signed the plate, and, of course, before the printer's address. The figure is shown complete; but very little shading has been done; and the print is done in silvery gray of a very brilliant quality.

Were it not for the facts above stated, I would have been glad to have kept several of the fine drawings and one or two of the Millet etchings, but I must deny myself.

Thanking you for having allowed me the pleasure of looking over such a splendid group of things, and wishing yourself and family a Very Merry Christmas, I remain,

Faithfully yours,
Charles L Freer
