detail reported to me without supplies of any kind and I must furnish them or they must starve. I used all the economy that I could and expected that my vouchers would be cashed in Natchez at sight. But Capt Kemper telegraphed me that my vouchers were sent to Vicksburg and then disappeared.

I would now like to be advised in what way I can recover my money

In regard to keeping records all lately kept is my letter book

So far as the general condition of my District is concerned as far as my knowledge extends, I must say that that every thing is going along very smoothly. Nearly all the negroes contracted early in the season and from all reports that I can gather besides I have lately traveled considerable through my district and have had good opportunityes to investigate they are working very well. I hear very little complaining from any quarter.

It has been some time since I have heard any abuses worth mentioning.
