Sir,

We are sorry to inform you that the case with the "Whistler pastel" did not manage to catch the steamship it was intended for and which left Liverpool, a week ago.

We were told it was in plenty of time, when handing over to the "Express agent".

The box has gone by "S.S. Teutonic" leaving Liverpool, Wednesday 3rd Inst.

We enclose a receipt which has just been sent up to us, with instructions to forward to Consignee.

Trusting this delay will not cause you too much inconvenience.

We are, Sir,

Yours truly,

La Société des Beaux-Arts,
Alex. Reid, directeur,
