Randall Walker (cold) represents to me that you have seized his cotton and prevent his selling the same by reason of his owing a debt which is I learn as follows, $20 for a Gun less $18. credit by Corn. He has also traded with you on Sanfords orders $30. and had provisions of Mr Sanford to the amt of $37. The laws of this State allow $250. exempt from execution and Genl Ord by Circular No 19 has confirmed the Statute. If this be correct then Randall owes Sanford $67. for Supplies & Genl Order No 19 Hd Qrtrs 4th Mil Dist, the right is given Randall to dispose of his crop to any person whom he desires but I also construe that Sanford would have a common law lien, while he detained the crop on his place for his actual advances in provisions, that is to say, the purchaser would be compelled to pay Sanford before he took possession of the crop, but this lien does not apply to sale of guns & the like & especially by third parties
