Refugees have applied to this office for relief, but being unable to give assistance at this office, nothing can be done in thier cases.

During the past few days I have visited some of the schools, & find them in a good & prosperous condition.

The case in regard to the Harston Plantation has been settled, & although the parties interested were dissatisfied with the proceedings of the board of Arbitration I can inform you that so far as the dividing of the crop was concerned (abiding by the decision of the Arbitrators) that it was done in a just manner.

There have been referred to me since I took charge of this office 30 cases, all of which have been satisfactorily settled, or referred to the proper authorities as follows

Laborers Claims.  15.
Assault & Battery.  2.
Detaining Property.  5.
Difficulties between husband & wife.  2.
Discharged without settlement.  6.
