Chambers Judge. 0./ Dear Sir, Your Communication of the 24th Ult. with affidvats inclosed came to hand this morning, in reply would say that as there is evidence which we have to admit which tends to show that Anthony Hall made the settlement you speak of as a means of getting his wife and property away from your plantation. We cannot allow the matter to rest where it now is. You are requested to call all these Head, Quarters at your earliest convenience, I am. Sir. Very Respectfully Your Obed't Serv't E M Gregory Brig. Viz. John Shelby, George Shelby, William Shelby, Eliza Shelby, Malinda Sutton, Charles and Georgiana. George Bartow wishes them to know that he is well and wants to know how they are getting along &c He has heard that the Mother of these persons was dead he wishes to know if it is true. any word of these parties sent to these Hd Qrs will be imparted to Geo. You will try the case you speak of, Maltreatment, or if you judge it best place it in the hands of the Civil Officer provided that they admit the evidence of the Fredmen upon the same principals as a White person, or in other words the freedmen have the same rights as white men in all respects.
