Sir,

Five or Six months ago this office was informed that the daughter of a freedman named Mattison Alec or Simington, was living in Houston with a Sister of one Henry Mofield, who lives near Seguin, Mattison made diligent search in Houston and cannot find his child, and it desired that you see Mr Mofield and learn the name of the husband of Mr. M's sister and forward the same to these Headquarters. The name of the little girl he is looking for is Mary Jane.

Mattison desires Mr Mofield to be informed that he wishes the child of his now with Mr Mofield near Seguin to stay there until he comes for her.
