the case before the Civil Officers and in case they will not move in the matter or do not mete out to the offenders the punishment the crime deserves, you will at once report the whole case to the nearest Military Comdr. for his action, and at the same time to these Hd Qrs. naming the Officers thus lax in their duties, with the names of other men who if appointed in their stead would faithfully execute the laws of the State,

If you request the presence of troops to enable you to discharge your duties, you must make application for them

I am directed by the Asst Comr. to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 15th. inst and to State in reply that the letter referred to dated March 24/67, did not seem to require an answer as it was thought that the place referred to at which there was a School for twenty (20) people &c. was the plantation of Mr Smith near Independence from the remarks, I can [[strikethrough]] get [[/strikethrough]] hire no building for a Colored School in Brenham; and you should be sure to [[rectify?]] the Office when the school being built could be ready for a teacher.

The Asst Supt of schools will visit you in a few days, your letter has been referred to Lt. Garretson A.A.Q.M. with respect to Stationery &c.
