Capt,

I am informed that a man named Geo Macumber a Steam Boat Engineer is in the Co jail at Houston.

On or about the 5th of last month he committed an aggravated assault upon a freedman in this City causing severe injuries and nearly his death, every effort has been made to assist said Macumber but he has thus far eluded the Civil and Military authorities unless he be at Houston as intimated

You will immediately investigate the matter and if he be in confinement for any offence whatever you will see that he is not released until orders from these Hd.Qrs.

You will report all the facts in the case to these Hd.qrs. as soon as possible.
