30 54. Hd Qurs B R F & A L State of Texas Galveston April 27 1867 Pease Capt W.B. Sub asst. Com Houston Texas 1/103 Capt, I am informed that a man named Geo Macumber a Steam Boat Engineer is in the Co jail at Houston. On or about the 5th of last month he committed an aggravated assault upon a freedman in this City causing severe injuries and nearly his death, every effort has been made to assist said Macumber but he has thus far eluded the Civil and Military authorities unless he be at Houston as intimated You will immediately investigate the matter and if he be in confinement for any offence whatever you will see that he is not released until orders from these Hd.Qrs. Bureau Freedmen Refugees and Abandoned Lands, I have the honor to transmit herewith copies of General Order No 9 and Special Order Nos 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48 49 and 50, issued from these Headquarters. State of Texas Galveston April 12. 1867 William Garretson Esq. is hereby appointed an Agent of the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen &c. in this State, at a salary of One hundred Dollars per month. This appointment is made subject to the approval of Maj. Gen. O.O. Howard Commissioner in accordance with provisions of "an Act to continue in force the Bureau" passed July 16th 1866, and will take effect from April 12th 1867. He will report at these Hd.
