I have the honor to request that Mr. Geo. F. Eber may be appointed an agent of this Bureau at a salary of one hundred (100) dollars per month, to take effect the 1st of April 1868.

Sir,

Enclosed you find an order assigning you to duty at Dallas, Texas, as Sub Asst Commissioner; Also a copy of an oath which it will be necessary for you to subscribe and swear to before some competent authority to administer an oath and return the same to these Headquarters.

Application has been made t General O.O. Howard to have you appointed an agent of this Bureau at a salary of one hundred dollars per month, to take effect April 1, 1868. If you accept the appointment you will at once proceed to Dallas, Texas, and relieve Mr. Horton, Sub Asst. Commissioner at that place, in accordance with the enclosed order, He will remain with you a few days to give you an insight of the business.

Immediately notify me of the acceptance or non-acceptance of the appointment.

I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 23 inst. and to say in reply that a request has been made to Genl. Howard to have Mr. Mc Geal appointed as a clerk at a salary of one hundred dollars per month, to take effect April 1. 1868.

Mr. Mc Geal can enter upon his duties with you on the 1st day of April.

I have the honor to request that Mr. James Mc Geal be appointed a clerk of this Bureau at a salary of salary of one hundred dollars pe month, to take effect April 1. 1868.

The removal of troops to the frontier has caused many vacancies in the Bureau which can only be replaced by citizen agents.
